We are seeking a detail-oriented and analytical X-ray Systems Test Engineer to support the design, development, and validation of X-ray industrial imaging systems. The ideal candidate will be responsible for planning, executing, and documenting tests on both hardware and software components of X-ray systems, ensuring performance, safety, and compliance with relevant standards and regulations.

Job Description

  • Design and implement test plans, test cases, and test procedures for X-ray systems.
  • Conduct system-level testing of imaging systems including calibration, image quality evaluation, radiation safety, and functional verification.
  • Operate X-ray equipment in a lab or field environment, adhering strictly to radiation safety guidelines.
  • Collaborate with R&D, hardware, software, and regulatory teams to resolve issues and improve system performance.
  • Analyse test data, document results, and generate detailed test reports.
  • Develop and maintain automated test tools and scripts as needed.
  • Validate compliance with applicable standards.
  • Support root cause analysis for product failures and contribute to corrective actions.
  • Assist in verification and validation (V&V) activities as part of product development lifecycle.

Critical Functions

  • Provide the operational and technical support for the delivery of Mobile CIS Systems and related Sub Systems; whether at Factory or at Site.
  • Assist the Commissioning, Testing, and Training Resources at Site to complete their Tasks during the System arrive Site, Run Up and Testing, Training to Handover to Service Provider processes through to Initial Mortality of System/Sub Systems and Defect Liability.
  • Advise the Service Provider during the Systems arrival process of the Service Consumables and/or Spares held with the System.
  • Advise CIS Service and Local Service Providers on the effective reporting and basic analysis of Service data related to CIS Mobile Systems.
  • Advise the Service Provider on the required Tools and Test Equipment including Hand and Power Tools required to perform Routine and Reactive Service.
  • Interact with the Operational End User and local Service Resources to ensure that Care of Ownership, normal Routine Service and the scope for Chassis and Scan Drive support is understood.
  • Define to the Operational End User and local Service Provider the Reactive Maintenance program and the RAG approach.
  • Provide the OEM (Varex) reactive maintenance response (both remotely and at Site) for Mobile CIS Systems (prior to a developed Service Organisation).
  • Develop a deep operational knowledge of the Varex Mobile Cargo Inspection Systems and its Sub Systems.
  • Establish and sustain a thorough and workable Service Routines, Troubleshooting and Fault-finding Guides for the Mobile Systems.
  • Provide the Mobile Systems CAPA and ECN interface between Cargo Service and Cargo Engineering.
  • Advise on suitable, scalable, and achievable Mobile System Spares Packages covering Service Consumables, Critical Parts, and Stock guides.
  • Provide support to CIS Service and the Service Provider for Spares and Parts Shipments.
  • Plan, schedule, and perform any defined or advised technical visits to the System at its Operational Site.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Physics, or a related technical field.
  • 2-5 years of experience in system-level testing, preferably with X-ray or other imaging systems.
  • Familiarity with X-ray generation and detection principles.
  • Understanding of industrial system testing standards.
  • Proficiency with data analysis tools.
  • Strong documentation and communication skills.

Experience

  • 10+ years in Product Support, Technical Production or Engineering or Servicing of Mobile (or Gantry or Portal) High Energy Non-Intrusive Inspection Systems. Must be diligent, logical, methodical, and efficient.
  • Proficient in a relevant Service Online Platform or Software Application MS Suite.

Preferred

  • Experience working in a regulated environment.
  • Radiation safety training or certification (e.g., RSO or equivalent).
  • Hands-on experience with X-ray detectors, image processing, or image quality metrics.

Working Conditions

  • Test environment with exposure to ionizing radiation under controlled conditions.
  • Must be able to wear PPE and follow strict safety protocols.
  • Occasional travel may be required for field testing or customer support.
