The Opportunity

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and ambitious individual to join our supportive and growing team in Keele University's School of Computer Science and Mathematics as a Lecturer in Cyber Security.

The School delivers high-quality teaching and research across computer science, data science, mathematics, and aligned specialist areas, with a strong commitment to student success and research that addresses real-world challenges.

As a Lecturer in Cyber Security on the Education and Research pathway, you will contribute to engaging, research-informed teaching and develop an active research profile in your area of expertise.

Your educational responsibilities will include module delivery and leadership, curriculum and assessment design, and the supervision of undergraduate and postgraduate student projects. You will help students connect underpinning concepts with practical security challenges, developing their technical skills, critical thinking, and understanding of ethical and professional responsibilities. Working with and supporting students will be an important part of your role.

We are looking for someone who brings energy and enthusiasm to teaching, enjoys making complex ideas accessible, and takes an active interest in students' progress.

Through practical learning activities, personal tutoring, and academic guidance, you will help students build confidence, overcome challenges, and prepare for their future careers. You will contribute to a welcoming environment where students from all backgrounds feel included, supported, and encouraged to explore their interests.

You will develop and undertake high-quality research in Cyber Security, contributing to publications, external funding applications, and collaborative activity within and beyond the School. You will also contribute to postgraduate research supervision and seek opportunities to build productive relationships with academic, industry, and other external partners.

You will have a PhD in Cyber Security, Computer Science, or a closely related discipline, or equivalent relevant experience, alongside strong subject expertise and evidence of research achievement appropriate to your career stage. Expertise in areas such as network and systems security, secure software development, ethical hacking, digital forensics, or security management would be valuable.

You will bring experience of teaching or supporting learning in higher education, effective communication and organisational skills, and a collaborative approach. Above all, you will combine enthusiasm for advancing cyber security research with a commitment to helping students learn, grow, and succeed.
