Background
The function of the Schools Liaison team is to promote the College Group and Institute of Technology and the opportunities they offer, drive student recruitment and provide a point of contact for the Group's contacts with schools.
Building upon a range of current activities the post holder will be a key brand ambassador and work alongside colleagues to raise awareness of the NSCG offer amongst prospective students, their parents, school and careers staff. The role combines working out in schools, supporting events and activities at each of our campus buildings and working from our office base at the Newcastle campus.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
1. To establish and maintain excellent working relationships with all relevant members of staff in local schools and careers services.
2. To respond positively and proactively to the individual needs of the schools to ensure that NSCG is positioned as the college of first choice for potential students.
3. To assist with the organisation and delivery of college information and advice events including large scale Open Events, which generally take place in the evening or on a Saturday morning.
4. To assist, the team in developing, co-ordinating and promoting subject specific activities (including large subject specific taster events attended by 15-220 school pupils), to raise awareness of full time courses and apprenticeships.
5. To design, market and confidently deliver specific college talks and workshops to respond to the needs of schools.
6. To represent the college and coordinate subject staff (where required) at school parents evenings, GCSE options evenings, career events and other specific school events, in the day and evening when required, acting as a brand ambassador and providing information, advice and guidance on the courses and pathways available at NSCG.
7. To organise and deliver individual and large group tours at the College for school pupils, school staff and parents.
8. To research and keep up to date with career pathways that a potential student may wish to take.
9. To evaluate Schools Liaison activities and feed back to teaching staff
10. To keep abreast of developments in secondary education both nationally and locally
11. To work (when necessary) in collaboration with other local colleges/universities on projects relating to Schools Liaison
12. To implement college policy, particularly in relation to equal opportunities, the student charter and health and safety.
13. To undertake such other duties which may arise from time to time and which are commensurate with the job title, this may include occasional work on wider marketing projects or events.
14. To keep on top of admin within the team such as, telephone enquires, daily emails, application information requests and diary requests.
15. To prioritise tasks given, keep to deadlines and be able to work as part of team.

3. Is able to demonstrate initiative and manage own workload.
4. Has a flexible approach to working hours throughout the year, especially in the autumn and Spring Terms, during peak parent's evenings and careers event periods. The role involves some early mornings, late evenings and occasional weekend working. E A, I
5. Has an appreciation of Key Stage 4 and Post 16 education, and more importantly the desire to immerse yourself in the college 'product' offer to allow you to become a proactive and positive 'brand ambassador'.
6. Has the confidence and interpersonal skills to deal with multiple stakeholders. Must be comfortable communicating to large audiences, individuals and small groups.
7. Has excellent organisational and administrative skills.
8. Is able to establish good working relationships with staff in the college, in the local careers service and in schools.
9. Is a car owner and is willing to use it on College business.
10. Has a willingness to undertake continuous professional development.
11. Has a good understanding of current social media communication tools.
12. Is proficient in Microsoft Office and Microsoft Excel, particularly the use of Power Point and related software.
13. Has an understanding of the College's obligations and commitments to the safeguarding of young people and vulnerable adults; the promotion of equality of opportunity and celebration of diversity.
Salary and Conditions
All staff are employees of the College Corporation who determine conditions of service in negotiation with recognised trade unions.
The salary will be £25,991 - £30,113 per annum.
The salary is payable on the 27th each calendar month or the last working day before, by direct credit transfer into a bank/building society of your choice. The post is pensionable and a deduction is made from salary.
Appointments are provisional until medical clearance is obtained, and this may require the person appointed to pass a medical examination. It is the policy of the College to approach referees candidates short-listed for interview if consent has been given on the application form. It is also College policy to approach a candidate's current or most recent employer for a reference. Where the candidate is working in the education sector a reference will be sought from the appropriate Principal, Head teacher or Vice Chancellor.
The appointment is subject to satisfactory references and appropriate checks with the Disclosure and Barring Service together with a probationary period of six months. The hours of duty are 37 hours per five-day week. Annual holiday entitlement will be 24 - 31 days per year (depending upon spinal column point and years' service), plus bank holidays and a closure period at Christmas. Holidays are normally taken out of term time.
