Learning Support Assistant - Full-Time ( 32.5 hours a week )

Specialist Provision Social Communication

Required as soon as possible

We are seeking to appoint a suitably qualified and experienced full-time Learning Support Assistant to work alongside the teacher in our Specialist Provision Social Communication hub. The hub will provide academic intervention, alongside targeted social, emotional, behavioural and wellbeing support, for a small class of students.

Salary scale:

• NJC Point 11 - 14 £14.9917 - £15.7367 per hour

Main duties/responsibilities:

The appointee will

• Assist the teacher in supporting and caring for students, including attending to any personal, medical and dietary needs;
• Understand and contribute to the ongoing evaluation of the specific needs of the students, as set out in their Individual Education Plans /Personal Learning Plans /Care Plans;
• Support students' inclusion in mainstream lessons, College events and unstructured times;
• Support the students in moving around the College, assisting with supervision during unstructured times;
• Liaise closely with the Learning Support Coordinator (LSC) and Specialist Provision Teacher.

Other duties/responsibilities:

The appointee will

• Establish positive and supportive relationships with the students;
• Prepare and produce appropriate resources to support the students;
• Adhere to the College's policies and procedures;
• Attend relevant in-service and external training;
• Assist with daily registration;
• Assist with the recording of student progress as required;
• Provide regular feedback on student progress and wellbeing.

Criteria

Essential

The person appointed will have a good level of education, including:

• 5 or more GCSEs at Grade C or above or equivalent, including English and Maths;
• NVQ Level 2 in childcare; or other relevant childcare qualifications;
• Experience of working with children and young people with additional educational needs (AEN);
• Willingness to undertake training as appropriate;
• Excellent interpersonal skills;
• An understanding of and commitment to integrated education.

Desirable

• Experience of working with children and young people in a specialist educational setting;
• Evidence of professional development relevant to supporting children and young people in a specialist setting;
• First aid training and / or knowledge and experience of supporting students with other medical needs such as diabetes, epilepsy and allergies;
• An interest in contributing to the extra-curricular life of the College.
