Our client in Stoke on Trent is recruiting for a Functional Skills Tutor to deliver various training courses, focusing on Maths and English skills, in addition to Digital Skills and Employability Skills. As a Functional Skills Tutor, you will support learners closely who are undertaking Apprenticeship courses or individuals who are returning to work. A driving licence is essential for this role. Duties for the Functional Skills Tutor will include:

  • Prepare and deliver Functional skills sessions for Maths, English and Digital Skills through in-centre programmes, by attending their workplaces and also through online courses
  • Conduct assessments to produce Individualised Learning Plans and then monitor the learner's progress through regular reviews to ensure achievements are being met
  • Create teaching resources, including lesson plans, assignments and assessments for individual learners
  • Ensure the teaching aligns with NOCN standards and support with regular SPAG checks
  • Identify additional learning requirements
  • Ensure compliance in all areas
  • Monitor performance against KPIs to support learner progress
  • Keep up to date with developments in Functional Skills and relevant national awards
  • Collaborate effectively with Training Officers, employers and other key stakeholders to monitor and support learner progression
  • Actively participate in Ofsted inspections, awarding body quality visits, and DfE audits when required
  • Promote safeguarding, equality, diversity, and inclusion across all learning environments.
  • Support the development of new qualifications and learning programmes, such as Digital Skills, by contributing to the design of schemes of work and teaching resources.
It would be good to see candidates for the Functional Skills Tutor role with the following:
  • Must hold a Tutoring/Teaching Qualification
  • Proven experience in a similar role where you have delivered Functional Skills training is essential (minimum 2-3 years' experience)
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office skills
  • Strong administrative skills
  • A driving licence is essential
  • Must be able to complete an Enhanced DBS certificate
