Andrew Blake (John Malkovich) is a recently widowed British businessman who wants to be closer to memories of his late French wife, and he decides that taking a job as a butler of a manor house in Northern France will help. But he isn't prepared for the unexpected turn that his life takes, as he navigates the eccentric behaviour of the lady of the manor and her household staff, or that his sentimental journey may spur the chateau and everyone living in it back to life.
