Why, why, why, our Nathan will keep singing

By Sarah Garner 8th Feb 2023

Stoke boxer, Nathan 'Hitman' Heaney, has defended his walk-out song, Delilah by Tom Jones, saying even if it was cancelled in boxing, he would sing it himself.

The unofficial Stoke City FC anthem was banned by the Welsh Rugby Union last week due to its depictions of domestic violence.

But the song has great significance for Nathan as he is not only a massive Stoke City fan, it has been his walk-out song from his very first fight.

Nathan told Stoke Nub News: "Even if the worst case scenario happened and it was cancelled in boxing, I'd just sing it myself anyway.

"Whatever happens, I'll be coming out to Delilah regardless, it's the right song for me, being a Stoke lad.

"I don't play any music in the changing room but then as soon Delilah kicks in that's when I'm ready.

"The place is electric, the atmosphere gives people goosebumps and you feel like you can fight anyone on the back of that."

Nathan Heaney was born in Fenton but currently lives in Trentham (Nathan Heaney).

Fenton-born Nathan has a huge following and even those who have moved away from Stoke travel back into the area to watch him fight.

Nathan said: "I'm fighting representing the city, everyone comes together and on the night, they're so loud and so good it's amazing so people keep coming back.

"Having the support is the most important thing, you can be the champion of the world but if nobody wants to come and see you fight it means nothing."

Nathan will fight for the WBA Continental Title next month (Nathan Heaney).

Tickets for his upcoming fight against Jack Flatley have almost sold out, and Nathan will be hand delivering each ticket himself.

Nathan will face Jack Flatley on Saturday 25 March at Telford International Centre in Telford with the WBA Continental Title at stake.

For tickets, message Nathan on Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram.
