Water teams spent nearly seven hours at a North Staffordshire county park after a man was seen in the lake.

Emergency services, including the Midlands Air Ambulance, were dispatched to Bathpool Park in Kidsgrove at 2:50pm yesterday (11 April) to reports of a man in the water.

Three fire engines were also at the park along with an ambulance, three paramedic officers, the Hazardous Area Response Team, and an emergency doctor. The West Midlands Ambulance Service says the rescue operation went on for "several hours".

Eyewitnesses at the park say the air ambulance landed on the Rugby pitch at 3pm before taking off at around 5pm while the teams continued to attempt to bring the man to safety.

The man was taken to hospital by paramedics after being treated for "non-life-threatening injuries" and rescue crews left the park at 9:40pm.

A spokesperson for Staffordshire Fire and Rescue said: "We were called at 2.50pm yesterday (Monday 11 August) to Westmorland Avenue, Kidsgrove, Newcastle-under-Lyme, following reports of a man in the water.

"Appliances attended the scene alongside water rescue units and colleagues from Staffordshire Police and West Midlands Ambulance Service.

"Water rescue teams moved the man to safety and he was left in the care of paramedics.

"Crews left the scene at 9.40pm."

A spokesperson for the West Midlands Ambulance Service added: "Crews worked with police and fire colleagues on scene for several hours to safely extricate him from the water.

"Once on dry land, the man was assessed and treated by ambulance staff for non-life threatening injuries before being conveyed to hospital for further care."
