Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service is reminding people not to burn waste at home after a fire spread to a chicken shed in North Staffordshire.

It comes after the service was called at 6.45am on Thursday (6 August) to Delphouse Road in Cheadle following reports of a fire.

Three appliances attended the scene and found a shed "well alight".

A spokesperson for Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service said: "The fire was extinguished using two hose reel jets and thankfully, no people or chickens were injured."

The service said the cause of the fire was deemed to be accidental, by a fire brazier being close to the shed.

Station Manager Mike Loader - who attended the scene - said: "We are urging people not to burn rubbish at home, as the fire can quickly become out of control, like we have seen in this incident.

"Bonfires also have the potential to impact your health, cause a nuisance to neighbours, damage the wider environment through pollution, and cause devastating fires."
