Caverswall Village Hall played host to 60 pensioners this afternoon for Christmas dinner, sherry and Baileys.

A team of ten volunteers served winter vegetable soup, traditional turkey roast dinner and Christmas pudding.

Attendee Jeff Lake said: "This has been going on since the Village Hall opened and the committee has always provided a Christmas dinner for OAPs. Because of COVID we haven't had one for two years so it looks like everyone is glad to come out."

Last month, volunteers set out in the community, knocking on doors and personally asking their neighbours to attend.

Volunteer Emily Quinn explained why she feels passionately about this event.

She said: "We wanted to make sure our elderly neighbours had a warm Christmas meal and help them get together and socialise again after COVID.

"It's just what Christmas is about - spreading joy and having fun!"

The meal was funded by Caverswall Village Hall and sponsor JLR Metal Works.
