Arfan Mohammed, owner of Sizzlers takeaway on Abbots Road in Abbey Hulton, consistently goes above and beyond to help people across Stoke-on-Trent.

For the past few years, Arfan has been delivering 'pensioner packs' to those in need, helping struggling families and sponsoring local football teams.

As well as delivering food packages, he has also been donating cash to help elderly residents pay their rising gas and electricity bills.

Arfan told Stoke Nub News: "I believe that pensioners will never ask for help, you'll never see a pensioner asking for anything, but they are the ones that have built this country, they've fought wars and built infrastructure.

"I decided it's only right for me to give something back to the community that gives me so much."

As well as delivering food packages, Arfan also donates cash to help elderly residents pay their rising gas and electricity bills (Arfan Mohammed).

The packs include enough food to last one person around a week and contain staples such as rice, pasta, biscuits and cakes as well as tinned food.

Arfan began this scheme by buying the goods himself, but now he receives an influx of donations from the local community.

He said: "It's all because of my customers, they always give something back to me, we've got a good relationship and we all help each other."

This year, Arfan will be continuing his 'pensioner packs' scheme as well as aiming to provide 1,000 children across Stoke-on-Trent with Christmas presents.

Sizzlers, on Abbots Road in Abbey Hulton, is open 4.30pm - 11pm (Nub News).

He has also won the prestigious 'Charity Champion / Volunteer of the Year' award for this tireless community work.

Sizzlers, on Abbots Road, is open 4.30pm - 11pm every day.
