Two men have been charged with murder in connection with the death of a man in Newcastle-under-Lyme.

Staffordshire Police has confirmed that a 20-year old man and a 22-year-old man have been charged in connection with the death of 20-year-old Jamie Evans.

Corey Hughes, 20, of Newcastle-under-Lyme, who is described as White British, has been charged with murder and possession of a knife in a public place.

Connor Edward Cartlidge, 22, of Newcastle-under-Lyme, who is described as White British, has been charged with murder and possession of a knife in a public place.

The police force added that a 19-year-old man, also from Newcastle-under-Lyme, arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to murder, has been released on conditional bail as enquiries continue.

It comes after officers were called to Orme Road just after 5pm on Friday (4 September) by the West Midlands Ambulance Service.

The ambulance service were responding to a crash involving a Ford Fiesta and a parked Audi.

A spokesperson for Staffordshire Police said: "The driver of the Ford was 20-year-old Jamie Evans, from Stone.

"He was found with a serious injury consistent with a stab wound, which we believe he suffered on Orme Road before getting into the car.

"Sadly, Jamie was later pronounced dead."

On Sunday (6 September), Jamie's family paid tribute to him saying: "Although his life was far too short, the love he gave, the laughter he shared and the memories he created will remain in the hearts of all who knew him.

"He will be deeply loved, profoundly missed and never forgotten."

Staffordshire Police has confirmed that Cartlidge and Hughes remain in custody and are due to appear at the North Staffordshire Justice Centre today (Tuesday 8 September).
