The police force also confirmed that a 38-year-old man, from Stoke-on-Trent, has now also been arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender.

It comes after officers were called to a crash involving a red Ford Fiesta and a grey Audi on Orme Road just after 5pm on Friday (4 September) by West Midlands Ambulance Service.

The man, 20-year-old Jamie Evans, from Stone, was taken to hospital, where he died.
On Sunday (6 September), Jamie's family paid tribute to him saying: "Although his life was far too short, the love he gave, the laughter he shared and the memories he created will remain in the hearts of all who knew him.
"He will be deeply loved, profoundly missed and never forgotten."
Staffordshire Police said Hughes and Cartlidge are next due to appear at Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court on 13 November 2026.
