Two arrested on suspicion of murder following death of baby in Stoke-on-Trent

Two people have been arrested on suspicion of murder following the death of a baby in Stoke-on-Trent.

Police and paramedics were called on 27 August to reports of the death of a baby boy at a property on Sherwin Road, Burslem.

A 26-year-old woman and a 25-year-old man were arrested on suspicion of causing/allowing the death of a child on 30 August and released on conditional bail as an investigation continued. 

They have both been further arrested today (Tuesday 17 September) on suspicion of murder and are being questioned by detectives. 

A 26-year-old woman and a 25-year-old man have been arrested on suspicion of murder (Staffordshire Police).

Specialist officers are supporting the baby's family.

Detective Inspector Gina Pope, from the Major Investigations Department, who is leading the investigation, said: "This is a distressing incident which will have shocked the local community. 

"We are working to establish the circumstances around the baby's death

"Speculation on social media would be extremely unhelpful and will cause unnecessary distress to those affected by this incident at this already very difficult time."
