A man and woman have been arrested following a XL Bully attack in the city, with a man currently in hospital after suffering "serious" injuries.

On Wednesday 1 November, Staffordshire Police received reports of an incident on Ellgreave Street, Burslem.

Around 9pm, officers arrived at the scene, discovering two other dogs had been attacked by a suspected XL Bully, with a man getting hurt as he intervened.

The man suffered serious arm injuries and was rushed to hospital.

A 22-year-old woman from Stoke-on-Trent, and a 29-year-old man of no fixed address, have been arrested on suspicion of owning a dog dangerously out of control.

The pair remain in custody at this time. Two dogs have been seized by officers and taken to secure kennels.

A Staffordshire Police spokesperson said: "Shortly after 9pm on Wednesday 1 November, we were called to Ellgreave Street, Burslem, following reports of a dog attack.

"Members of the public tried to intervene as a dog, believed to be an XL Bully, attacked two other dogs.

"A man suffered serious arm injuries and has been taken to hospital.
