Third arrest made following two stabbings in Stoke-on-Trent

A third man has been arrested in connection with two stabbings in Stoke-on-Trent.

At 11.45am om Saturday (6 June), Staffordshire Police was called to The Strand, Longton following a report that a group of people were fighting in the street.

Officers attended the scene alongside paramedics from West Midlands Ambulance Service and Midlands Air Ambulance.

Two men were found with stab wounds.

A spokesperson for Staffordshire Police said: "They were both taken to hospital, where they remain in a stable condition today (Sunday 7 June)."

Shortly after the incident was reported, officers pursued a car that may have been involved in the incident until it came to a stop on Grafton Road, Longton.

Staffordshire Police explained that four people got out and ran off and two of them were stopped and detained.

Two people from Stoke-on-Trent were arrested.

One man, aged 28, was arrested on suspicion of Section 18 – wounding with intent. Another man, aged 22, was arrested on suspicion of Section 18 – grievous bodily harm with intent.

After carrying out further enquiries yesterday, officers made a third arrest.

A 26-year-old man, from Stoke-on-Trent, was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and violent disorder. He remains in custody.

Detective Superintendent Phil Bryan said: "We'd like to thank those who have already come forward with footage and information that has helped us with our investigation into this incident.

"We recognise this was a distressing incident that took place in the middle of the day and was seen by a number of people.

"Officers will remain in the area today (Sunday 7 June) to provide extra reassurance and to continue with our investigation."
