A takeaway owner in Stoke-on-Trent has supported thousands of local residents across the city by handing out 'pensioner packs' to those in need.

Arfan Mohammed, owner of Sizzlers in Abbey Hulton, constantly goes above and beyond to support others, regardless of race, religion or faith.

Arfan told Stoke Nub News: "It doesn't matter what race, religion or faith you are, we're all human beings and we're all here to help each other. If I can help someone then I will.

"I've always said we are here to bring communities together, I've been running a business for a few years now and I just wanted to put food on people's tables."

The packs contain a range of cupboard essentials such as coffee, sugar and cereal (Sizzlers).

The pensioner packs contain cupboard staples such as long-life milk, sugar, coffee and cereal and Arfan hand-delivers these packs to people across Stoke-on-Trent every week.

Arfan began this scheme four years ago by buying the goods himself, but now he receives an influx of donations from the local community.

Arfan said: "Our main objective is to help pensioners - they don't have to be struggling - just so they don't have to compromise on gas and electricity.

"We are blessed with a wonderful community here and my objective is to help people - no matter where someone is.

"My message is clear, if you have a parent, grandparent or neighbour who is a pensioner and you feel they would benefit from a pack, get in touch with me and I will deliver to them."

Stoke Nub News caught up with Arfan to hear all about his work - Watch the full interview on our Facebook page (Nub News).

Sizzlers also celebrated its fourth birthday on Friday (8 December) and Arfan had a special message for his customers: "I thank you from the bottom of my heart for being amazing, I could not do this without you, with your help and support I am in a position to put something back into the community."

If it wasn't for sponsors like Sizzlers, our news site would not be possible - thank you.
