Pupils are thriving at a city school according to a new Ofsted report – and the the school "may have improved significantly" since it was graded as good five years ago.

The results of Eaton Park Academy's latest inspection have recently been published by Ofsted.

In March 2019 the Bucknall primary school was rated as good. Inspectors who visited in October have praised staff's knowledge and aspirations for pupils, who were commended for their kindness and respect for others.

The report said: "Evidence gathered during this ungraded inspection suggests that the school's work may have improved significantly across all areas since the previous inspection. Pupils thrive at this school in an environment where they feel welcomed, happy and safe.

"Pupils' behaviour in and beyond the classroom is exemplary. They treat one another with respect.

"Staff have high aspirations for all pupils' learning and personal development; pupils live up to the schools' high expectations. They achieve well, including those with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND).

"Pupils become confident, independent and enthusiastic learners. They are eager to learn the interesting and aspirational curriculum that the school has put in place.

"Pupils are proud of the way they contribute to the school and the local community. Examples include singing in the nearby retirement village or volunteering at the local food bank.

"The school encourages pupils to have a voice and share their opinions through the many pupil leadership opportunities across the school. Pupils know that the school values their views and acts on the ideas they share; (they) are wonderful ambassadors for themselves and the school."

Inspectors said that the curriculum was "delivered exceptionally well" at the academy, which is part of Alpha Academies Trust. They added: "Staff have strong subject-specific knowledge and the expertise in how to teach the curriculum effectively; this is because of the highly effective programme of coaching that all staff receive.

"Pupils who need extra help, including pupils with SEND, are identified and helped to learn alongside their peers. Pupils with SEND are fully included in all aspects of school life.

"The school is not complacent and continues to strive for excellence. It identifies carefully areas for improvement.

"Staff are rightly proud to work at the school. They value the consideration shown by leaders for their workload and well-being."

Executive principal Louise Brammer said the academy was extremely proud of its latest inspection. She added; "It amplifies the hard work and commitment of all staff and leaders of the academy and within the trust.

"We are so proud of our pupils who are exemplary in every way, every day; showing commitment to learning, have excellent behaviour, and are full of aspiration and ambition for their future. Over many years Eaton Park has a legacy of high levels of progress and attainment.

"The report recognises the solid foundation our academy provides and the investment in wider development of our pupils, which is of equal importance to ensure our pupils of today are ready for the world of tomorrow."
