A popular Stoke-on-Trent pub hosted a family fun day last month and raised over £400 for a local charity.

The Saracens Head, in Meir, raised £417 for Headcases Staffordshire, which supports people with, or recovering from, head and neck cancer.

Paul Kelly, treasurer at Headcases, said: "Just ahead of our September meeting last night, Emma and Paul came out for this photo with our giant cheque. The fun day generated £417 for our funds. Thanks again to everyone who contributed to making the day a great success.

"Thank all the Nurse Specialists, Dietitians and Speech & Language therapists who regularly attend our monthly meetings. They give up their evenings, often travelling long distances to lend us their support."

The fundraising event took place at The Saracens Head, Meir, on Saturday 24 August (Nub News).

The fundraising event, which took place on Saturday 24 August, was complete with raffles, charity bingo, play your cards right and artisan craft stalls.

Lisa Nicol, who attends support groups hosted by Headcases, said: "This charity is very close to our hearts. They helped my husband and I through the darkest time, emotionally and mentally, when my husband John was diagnosed with tonsil cancer seven years ago.

"Thankfully, John has been in remission for six years now. Headcases hold a meeting on the 1st Wednesday of every month. We chat about anything and everything but foremost they raise money for vital equipment for the cancer unit at Royal Stoke and County hospitals."
