Stoke-on-Trent McDonald's allowed to stay open until 2am after trial

A McDonald's restaurant will be allowed to stay open until 2am on a permanent basis following a 12-month trial.
The fast food outlet in High Street, Sandyford was originally restricted to opening until 11pm, but applied to extend this by three hours.
Stoke-on-Trent City Council originally refused to vary the planning condition, due to concerns over the noise impact on residents in surrounding houses. m
But following an appeal the planning inspector overturned this decision and granted the extended hours for a 12-month temporary period last year.
Council planners have now agreed to make this a permanent change, as there have been no noise complaints during the trial period.
The officer's delegated decision report states: "Environmental health has been consulted on the current application and confirmed that during this trial period, there have been no complaints received from nearby local residents in respect of increased noise in the area.
"Given the above, the application is considered to be acceptable, subject to an amended hours of operation condition and other conditions recommended in the inspector's original appeal decision."
The extended hours only apply to the operation of the restaurant and drive-thru – food deliveries can only be taken or dispatched from the site between 8am and 7pm, Monday to Saturday.
