Stoke-on-Trent man found guilty of rape after handing himself in

A Stoke-on-Trent man has been found guilty of rape, assault and strangulation after handing himself in to police.
Richard Allmark, 21, of Smallthorne, was found guilty by the jury of two counts of rape, one count of intentional strangulation and one count of assault thereby occasioning actual bodily harm at Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court on Monday (14 July).
He also pleaded guilty to assault by beating at a previous hearing.
Allmark inflicted a campaign of abuse on the survivor between May and December last year, assaulting her on numerous occasions by dragging her by her hair and strangling her.
Staffordshire Police put out a wanted appeal to help track Allmark down earlier this year and he handed himself into police.
DC Alicia Tierney said: "I'm pleased that we've been able to build all of the evidence needed to ensure Allmark answers to his crimes and faces justice for what he did.
"This result was achieved through the immense bravery of the survivor and the efforts of all the officers and staff that have worked incredibly hard to secure the conviction."
Allmark is now in custody awaiting his sentencing on 12 September this year.
Survivors of rape or sexual assault are reminded to call 101 or use Staffordshire Police's Live Chat if they feel ready to talk about it.
