Couples could tie the knot at a Stoke-on-Trent heritage attraction if planners say yes to the city council's proposal to make it a licensed wedding venue.
An application has been put forward by Stoke-on-Trent City Council to allow wedding ceremonies and receptions to be held in a number of areas at the Potteries Museum in Hanley.
The application form stated: "It is proposed to obtain a licence to legally designate the museum as a registered venue for wedding ceremonies. Ancillary activities – wedding receptions – will not significantly deviate from current operation of the site, in which venue hire and public or ticketed activities, involving food and alcohol sales, are regularly delivered, being an established use of the museum.
"This may be within existing public opening times (10am-5pm Wednesday to Saturday, 11am-4pm Sunday) or could be on days the museum is closed to the public (Mondays and Tuesdays) and may also include evenings. The museum is currently a licensed premises for alcohol sales up until 10.30pm seven days a week, and runs an established programme of evening events, at least one per month.
"It is anticipated that offering the museum as a wedding venue may generate up to eight bookings per year. This may mean the use of the site outside public opening hours, or may mean closing sections of the site to the public during public opening hours."
