New "state-of-the-art" Padel courts are set to open in Stoke-on-Trent later this week.

Following a £815,000 investment, Powerleague, the UK's original and leading provider of commercial small-sided football, is set to introduce Padel courts at its Stoke Trentham Lakes club.

The courts will officially open on Thursday 12 February.

Powerleague explained that the club, located on Dennis Violet Avenue, Stoke-on-Trent, will feature four "state-of-the-art, fully canopied Padel courts", becoming Powerleague's eighth Padel site.

The courts will offer year-round play for beginners and experienced players who will also have access to "top-of-the-range" Babolat equipment, with rackets available to hire on-site.

John Gillespie, Chief Executive Officer at Powerleague, said: "We've been part of the Stoke community for more than 20 years and have seen first-hand the positive impact sport can have on both physical and mental wellbeing in the area.

"That's why we're delighted to be expanding our offer at our Stoke Trentham Lakes club with the addition of Padel courts."

To mark the arrival of Padel at Stoke Trentham Lakes, the club is hosting a community opening event on Thursday 26 February from 5pm to 9pm.

Local residents and players will be invited to try the sport through free 'Intro to Padel' sessions and a free-to-enter social tournament with prizes available throughout the day.

Food, drink, and music will also be provided for participants and spectators.

The launch at Powerleague Stoke Trentham Lakes forms part of the company's wider national Padel expansion.

According to the LTA, the number of Padel courts in the UK has grown rapidly over the past four years, with player numbers expected to reach 400,000 by the end of 2026.

Powerleague is investing £14 million to develop 17 dedicated Padel clubs across the UK, with plans to deliver a total of 76 courts by the end of 2026.

The company hopes that the expansion will make Padel accessible to more than 200,000 players each year.

John Gillespie added: "Padel's inclusive and social nature makes it a natural fit for the multisport environment we're continuing to build, and it gives even more people the opportunity to discover and enjoy one of the UK's fastest-growing sports.

"We're looking forward to welcoming players onto the new courts and continuing to support the Stoke community to stay active, social and connected."

Powerleague Stoke Trentham Lakes also offers five-a-side and seven-a-side 3G football pitches, floodlighting, changing facilities, free on-site parking, a bar, and a function room.

A spokesperson for Powerleague said: "The addition of Padel further strengthens the venue's role as a key sporting and social hub for the local community."

The new courts will be available to book in 60 and 90 minute sessions, alongside introductory coaching and organised social play.

Prices will start from £6.50 per person.

Bookings for the new courts can be made via the Playtomic app. For more information on the launch event and court availability, visit the Poweleague website here.
