Parents are being encouraged to make sure their children have received their MMRV (measles, mumps, rubella and chickenpox vaccine) as measles cases "surge" across England according to The British Medical Journal (BMJ).

A BMJ report, released on 10 July, revealed that an individual living in England has recently died from measles, the third person to die from the disease this year.

Two of those who died were children.

Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent Integrated Care Board said: "Measles is circulating in Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent.

"Check your child's vaccinations and help protect them.

"It's never too late to catch up.

"Check your child's Red Book or contact your GP practice to book an appointment."

Latest figures from the UK Health Security Agency show that there have been 883 confirmed cases of measles in England in 2026.

61% of cases were in children aged 10 and under with 17% of cases being in the West Midlands.
