Spooky season tips to keep Staffordshire safe
By Livia Gregor 28th Oct 2026
Many people across the county will be excited to celebrate Halloween and Bonfire Night.
However, Staffordshire Police is reminding people to stay safe and remember that this time of year can be intimidating for vulnerable people or those who live alone.
Superintendent Cheryl Hannan, Head of Local Policing North, said: "We are not here to stop people celebrating Halloween and Bonfire Night but we want people to do so responsibly as we often see a rise in anti-social behaviour (ASB) at this time of year.
"I would urge all parents to speak to their children about their safety, always know where they are, and educate them on the dangers of fireworks.
"The festive season is not an excuse for anti-social behaviour and putting yourselves and others at risk.
"It will not be tolerated, and we will take robust action against those responsible."
Tips to keep everyone safe:
- If you're going trick or treating, make sure to go in a group or with a responsible adult and only visit areas that are well lit, don't take shortcuts through gardens, alleyways or parks
- Only visit houses that are decorated and don't knock if there is a sign saying 'no trick or treat here'
- If you're wearing a mask, ensure that you can see where you're going and are aware of your surroundings
- Be aware of the law surrounding the appropriate use of fireworks; they can only be used by over 18s and only until midnight
Anyone who does not want trick or treaters can download Staffordshire Police's 'No Trick or Treat' sign here and place it in their window.
To report anti-social behaviour in your area, call 101 or use Live Chat on the Staffordshire Police website.
