A historic Staffordshire newspaper from World War One is on display at a Newcastle-under-Lyme care village.

Dementia specialist care operator, Belong, is inviting locals to visit the special exhibition at the care village on Lower Street.

The display features an original edition of The Sentinel from 1915, documenting news, editorial and details of the challenges that hardship brought during The Great War.

Amongst the pages of the Staffordshire Weekly Sentinel (5 June 1915) are the faces of men from the area who lost their lives in WWI and details of local services that supported the nation's wartime efforts.

There is also a 'Potteries Doll for the Queen' story, noting a special gift for Queen Mary, consort of King George V.

Emma Palin, experience and heritage coordinator at Belong Newcastle-under-Lyme, commented: "We are grateful for the generous donation of The Sentinel newspapers from a local person who found them when clearing a relative's house.

"They thought we might like them for the Belong Heritage Gallery which documents the history of the building (the town's oldest), as well as the area.

"The pages are very delicate and we've had them restored and framed specially using UV glass to ensure they don't fade in sunlight.

"The stories offer a fascinating insight into life at the time and the challenges presented during The Great War – we invite everyone to pop in to take a look."

The care village is also holding its own Remembrance Service for the community on Sunday 8 November from 10:30am.

Local people are invited to join as the National Service of Remembrance held at the Cenotaph on Whitehall, London is livestreamed.

The screening will be followed by tea and cake and the chance for conversation and reflection.
