The Ghost Train | Stoke Rep Theatre | Until Sat 3 Oct

The Ghost Train (Revised Edition) by Arnold Ridley is on at the Stoke Rep Theatre

The organisers said: "Step aboard for a spinetingling ride with The Ghost Train, Arnold Ridley's classic comedy-thriller that has had audiences laughing and gasping for generations.

"When a group of mismatched travellers become trapped overnight in a remote railway waiting room, they're warned of a terrifying legend: a phantom train hurtling through the darkness… bearing the dead from a long-ago train disaster. As nerves fray and secrets unravel, initial disbelief terrifyingly turns into fear, in a night packed with suspense, sharp wit and unexpected twists."

Stoke Book Festival: Secrets of Stoke's Historic Collection | City Archives | Hanley | Sat 3 Oct

As part of Stoke Book Festival, Stoke-on-Trent City archives is offering behind-the-scenes tour of the city's historic book collection on Saturday 3 October, starting at 11am. To reserve your spot call 01782 238420 or email [email protected].

Stoke Book Festival said: "Meet at the reception desk of the Potteries Museum and Art Gallery in Hanley. A friendly team member will greet you and guide you into the basement store to see rare books.

"Afterwards, we'll visit the archives reading room to view first editions from 1925-2025, part of the centenary 100 Books project.

"Finally, relax in our Book Nook with a cuppa from the cafe."

Repair Cafe | Biddulph Town Hall | Sat 3 Oct

Social Connective CIC will be running the Biddulph Repair Cafe at Biddulph Town Hall from 10am to 2pm on Saturday 3 October.

The organisers said: "Biddulph's Repair Café where you can bring your items to be repaired for free, including electricals, textiles, and household (excluding appliances, watches, clocks and smart devices)"

Amelia's Pop Up Café will be serving a selection of cakes, baked goods and hot and cold drinks.

Stoke Book Festival: Helena Attlee | Stoke Minster | Stoke | Sat 3 Oct

As part of Stoke Book Festival, Helena Attlee will giving a talk about her latest book - which recounts her experience of living in a village on the slopes of Etna.

The first author event of the festival will take place from 4pm to 5pm on Saturday 3 October.

Stoke Book Festival said: "Join Helena in opening the Stoke Book Festival, when she will transport us to the slopes of Mount Etna, Europe's biggest volcano.

"Helena's love of Italy has always inspired her writing, and her latest book, The Fire in the Mountain: Sicily, Etna, and Her People, was published in April this year.

"In it she tells us about her experience of living in a village on the slopes of Etna, describes fascinating people and austere landscapes, and considers what it means to make your home in the shadow of one of the world's most active volcanos."

R.E. Hayes Book Signing | Vellichor Books | Hanley | Sat 3 Oct

Vellichor Books in Hanley will be hosting a book signing event for The House by R. E. Hayes on Saturday 3 October.

The event will take place from 1pm to 2pm.

Potters 'Arf | Stoke-on-Trent | Sun 4 Oct

The Potters 'Arf is set to return this weekend with hundreds of Stokies due undertake the 13.1 mile route.

The walking race will start at 8:30am on Sunday 4 October with the main run starting at 9.30am alongside the Sir Stanley Matthews statue on Upper Market Square in Hanley.

The first road closures will begin as early as 5am and will last until as late as 4pm, but most will close at 8.30am before reopening between 10.15am and 1pm.
