Historic theatre company in Stoke-on-Trent looking for new members
A historic theatre company in Stoke-on-Trent is looking for new members, including actors, backstage crew and front-of-house helpers.
The Rep history dates back to 1920, when a group of young people interested in amateur theatre came together to put on a play to raise money for charity.
They hired The Empire Theatre, Longton, and the production took place as a matinee performance in February 1921.
By 1923, they had begun to call themselves The Stoke-on-Trent Repertory Players and over the years settled in their own theatre on Beresford Street, Shelton.
65 years later, The Players moved to their current home - a purpose-built theatre on Leek Road, Stoke.
Over 100 years after these small beginnings, The Rep history is still being written.
The Stoke Rep Players are the in-house theatre company of the Stoke Rep Theatre - they perform five plays each season, starting in October and ending around July each year.
The Rep is a member-led organisation. Everyone is an unpaid volunteer and we are always eager to welcome new members. Actors, are of course, essential, but there is always a need for backstage crew and front-of-house helpers.
No experience is required, The Players will show you the ropes and teach you the deep and dark secrets of the trade - and you'll make great friends too.
