People are invited to take a look at some of Staffordshire's most treasured artifacts on upcoming tours of the county's museum collection stores.

Located at the Staffordshire History Centre, the stores hold a whole host of fascinating relics including a unique cast-iron statue of biblical figure Samson.

The statue was part of a drinking fountain which once stood in Stafford's Gaol Square.

The fountain was demolished in 1928 after a collision with a motor van.

Furniture, laundry equipment, kitchen utensils, toys, lighting and garden tools will be on display giving visitors an insight into home and domestic life in previous centuries.

The collections also include historic clothing dating back to the 1700s, wheeled vehicles and over 100 paintings and artworks depicting Staffordshire's past.

Catherine Mann, Assistant Director for Culture, Rural and Safer Communities at Staffordshire County Council, said:  "We're incredibly lucky to have such an extensive collection that tells Staffordshire's fascinating story through many centuries.

"These behind-the-scenes tours offer a unique opportunity to see some amazing items. Each has their own story of how they helped shape life in the county.

"Some of the items will be displayed in the new Staffordshire History Centre, but with so many to choose from, it's a tough job deciding.

"We're delighted to be able to share this unique experience with visitors."

Tours are free but must be booked in advance, click here to find out more.
