The company behind the Silverdale landfill site Walleys Quarry has confirmed it is moving its headquarters away from Newcastle-under-Lyme.

The company's offices on Borough Road, just outside the town centre, have recently become a focal point for Stop The Stink campaigners, who are calling for the company to cease operations at Walleys Quarry and cap off the landfill.

Their demonstrations are understood to have caused disruption for staff working at the business' headquarters, and bosses have previously stated that staff feel intimidated by the protestors.

Members of the campaign group were banned from protesting in certain areas associated with the business – including the entrance to the landfill and in the company's car park – and this led them to arrange demonstrations on the pavement opposite the offices.

Red Industries said it remained committed to the area, and was moving as part of an expansion of its operation.

A spokesperson said: "As a result of the continued growth of the business, Red Industries has taken the decision to relocate the head office to a larger premises which can accommodate the expansion of our operation.

"Although the new offices will not be in Newcastle-under-Lyme, our commitment to the town and the community will remain.

"We will maintain our funding of the Community Partnership, which has already generated over £1.7m for good causes in the community, and will remain as the principal sponsors of Newcastle Town FC."

Protestors believe the move is an attempt to avoid being held accountable by the local community.

Simmo Burgess added: "We will still be making our voices heard.

"No matter where they are, the campaign to Stop The Stink will be there."
