Work is set to begin on replacing over 24 miles of ageing water pipes in Stoke-on-Trent as part of a major project to provide the city with a more reliable water supply.

The programme of works will be going ahead in Hanley, Burslem and Sneyd Green with the first phase planned to start on Milton Road, Berwick Road, Birches Head Road and Fairfax Street.

Starting on 1 April 2025, Severn Trent hope the £25 million project to modernise the city's water infrastructure will be complete by April 2027 and ensure resilience for the future.

The works are expected to result in "some disruption" for residents and businesses.

Charlene Richards, community communications officer for Severn Trent, said: "These works are part of a huge project for Severn Trent that will bring massive benefits to Stoke-on-Trent and our wider region.

"The new modern materials will last up to 100 years and create a more secure network for all of our customers.

"We understand that large-scale works such as this will cause some disruption, so we want to make sure that customers have all the information."

Ahead of the work beginning, Severn Trent will be meeting with residents and businesses at drop-in sessions to talk about the project.

The first session is for customers in the Hanley and Sneyd Green areas and is set to take place at The Indi Club, Ralph Drive, Stoke-on-Trent, ST1 6HZ on Monday, March 10th between 4pm and 7pm.

A second event will be going ahead for customers in the Burslem area at Port Vale Football Club, Vale Park, Hamil Road, Stoke on Trent, ST6 1AW on Tuesday, March 11th between 3pm and 6pm.

Anyone who owns or operates a business which receives visiting customers who purchase goods or services, and the works will affect sales income, contact the Severn Trent Business Loss Team by emailing [email protected] for further advice.
