Private burial ground could be created at a Stoke-on-Trent Islamic centre

Plans have returned to create a private burial ground at an Islamic centre in Stoke-on-Trent.
An application was submitted to Stoke-on-Trent City Council in 2023 seeking permission for 31 burial plots at Darbar Unique Centre in Fenton, but was later withdrawn.
Proposals have now been resubmitted for the Oldfield Road site.
A planning statement submitted as part of the latest application said: "After careful consideration of the consultation responses, the (previous) application was withdrawn on 3rd January 2024.
"The proposed development is for a small private religious burial ground located to the rear of the Darbar Unique Centre, to create small discrete burial plots for a religious minister and key devotees only.
"The proposed burial ground is modest in scale and would utilise an underused, irregularly shaped hardstanding space.
"Plot A is located to the north and is proposed to remain a car park, with a single burial plot for the minister situated next to the south western wall of the adjacent Darbar Unique Centre. Plot B is situated to the south of the site and is proposed for up to 30 burial plots.
"The need for these burial places is due to certain devotees of the Muslim faith having a spiritual/Sufism link with the Darbar Unique Centre and their wish for their final resting place to be here. The burial ground will provide a place for families and friends to remember loved ones."
Stoke-on-Trent City Council have yet to make a decision on the application.
