A Stoke-on-Trent bar has won in their bid to get a new licence. Slice Lounge at Piccadilly, Hanley recently applied to Stoke-on-Trent City Council for a new licence to alter opening hours.

Previously Staffordshire Police objected to the application, commenting that it would "undermine all of the licensing objectives" and raised concerns about a previous visit to the venue in September. In their objection to the Licensing Sub-Committee, police asked for the application to be refused.

However, conversation took place between Staffordshire Police and Slice Lounge representatives which meant a deal could be reached.

James Finn from Staffordshire Police said: "Happily I'm able to say on behalf of ourselves Staffordshire Police and Slice Lounge, and obviously they are here to contribute should they wish to but there has been an agreement reached."

As part of the deal the last weekend on a Friday and Saturday of the month the closing time will be increased to 2.30am, with the sale of alcohol stopping at 2am. Outside this the normal operating hours will continue.

As part of the agreement when the venue is open past midnight on a Friday or Saturday two door supervisors, who are registered with the Security Industry Authority will need to be on duty. There will also be a last entry policy which will prevent admission or readmission past midnight with the exception of customers who are using the smoking facility.

With the support of Staffordshire Police and the agreement in place between Slice Lounge and the police, councillors at Stoke-on-Trent City Council approved the application.
