Pets at Home, based on Phoenix Retail Park in Stoke-on-Trent, has applied for permission to build a new mezzanine floor (Nub News).

A popular pet shop has applied for permission to open a brand-new care, treatment and grooming centre in one of its Stoke-on-Trent stores.

Pets at Home, on Phoenix Retail Park, has submitted a planning application to the local council for a new mezzanine floor which will be used for pet care, treatment and grooming.

The veterinary service would be open 8.30am-7pm Monday to Friday, 9am-12pm on Saturday and closed on Sundays.

The pet care facility would be open to walkins during the week, but other appointments would only be accessible via pre-arranged appointments.

Available services would include grooming, worming and flea treatments, spaying and X-rays (Nub News).

The facility would comprise five consulting rooms where general pet care advice is given and animals receive basic preventative medicine and treatments (such as worming or flea treatments).

There will also be a small operating theatre to undertake small scale procedures such as spaying and X-raying.

As part of the application, Pets at Home also want to install 21 air conditioning units, a fire exit door, new staircase and gas bottle storage unit.

No extra staff are proposed as part of the plans.

A decision is expected regarding these plans in the coming months.
