Staffordshire Police is urging people to make sure windows and doors are closed following a spate of burglaries and attempted burglaries.

The police force said that the incidents are "linked to the warmer weather".

A spokesperson for Staffordshire Police said: "Thieves appear to be looking for easy targets where windows are left open and entry points are left insecure as more people across Staffordshire try to keep their homes cool during the warmer weather."

On Monday (20 July), a Mazda was stolen from the driveway of a home on Moreton Lane, Kingsley, in the Moorlands.

Staffordshire Police said the suspect got in the house through a window and took the keys before leaving the scene in the stolen car at about 3.40am.

Another car was taken on Monday (20 July) when suspects went inside a house on Elmwood Drive, Blythe Bridge.

The police said they found the keys to a Ford Kuga and drove off in the car at about 2.20am. The car was later found abandoned with a flat tyre in the Caverswall area.

Staffordshire Police added that similar reports were also received over the last few days in the following areas: Burrington Drive, Trentham; Princess Drive, Weston Coyney; Stanier Street, Fenton; Bridle Path, Werrington.

A spokesperson for Staffordshire Police said: "Officers from our criminal investigations department (CID) are continuing to progress enquiries into these incidents."

The spokesperson added: "We're asking people to make sure that windows and doors are secured wherever possible, especially if you are leaving the house or going to sleep at night.

"Even if you close your windows and doors on the evenings, you might forget to lock them which could prevent opportunists from trying to get inside.

"We're carrying out proactive patrols across our local policing teams areas and we're actively working to identify and act against those responsible."
