Plans to extend the YMCA facilities in Hanley to provide 'additional facilities' have been given the green light.
YMCA has been granted permission from the local council to build a side and rear extension to the existing building on Harding Road.
A design and access statement submitted as part of the application stated: "The proposal intends to create a flexible and vibrant multi purpose facility for YMCA NS, that caters for the varying needs of the users and employees.
"The proposals include for new Youth Facilities (including Art, Life Skills and a Digital / Multimedia Zone) along with accompanying additional office and training facilities to offer facilities and services to young people in need in the local community.
"The proposals are not considered to be out of context or character within the area and are a good reutilisation of an existing site with good design and use of space to provide additional much needed facilities to the YMCA."
No objections were received and permission was granted on Thursday 11 April.
An Officer's Report says: "Given the minor nature of the changes proposed which include a change in external materials the application has been assessed having regard for these changes and it is recommended for approval.
"The proposal is considered to be acceptable in terms of design, amenity and highway safety and would deliver sustainable development in accordance with the NPPF."
