Plans for a brand-new four-storey building in Tunstall have been approved by Stoke-on-Trent City Council, creating 10 flats for local residents.
49 McGough Street is currently vacant since the previous building was demolished over ten years ago.
The site was also listed on the Register of Stoke-on-Trent Brownfield Sites in 2020.
The Cheadle-based developer applied for permission in May 2023 to create 11 one-bedroom flats with six cycle spaces.
A design and access statement submitted as part of the application states: "The submitted proposal will secure the delivery of 11no. apartments on a previously developed site that occupies a highly sustainable location within easy walking distance of local day-to-day services and public transport connections."
Following concerns raised with regards to design, impact on heritage and residential amenity the scheme was redesigned to provide 10 apartments.
Each flat will have an open plan living/dining/kitchen area, a single bedroom and bathroom.
The building will be finished in render, with timber infill panels, grey UPVC windows and a grey tiled roof.
Permission was granted on Monday 6 November for the work to go ahead.
An officer's report by Stoke-on-Trent City Council said: "The proposals are considered to be acceptable in terms of design, impact on heritage, amenity, highway safety, drainage and ecology and would deliver sustainable development in accordance with policy."
