Piece of land in Stoke-on-Trent to be fenced off to deter fly-tippers

Fencing as high as 2.5m is set to be installed around a piece of land in Hanley to deter continued anti-social behaviour and fly-tipping.
The land, off Botteslow Street and Melville Street, was purchased by Goodwin Steel Castings from Stoke-on-Trent City Council in 2024 and is located close to the manufacturer's current site on Ivy House Road.
The company wants to fence off the land to secure its business and deter fly tipping and anti-social behaviour which has been happening there.
The officer's report approving the application said: "The applicant, who is a long established major business in the city, has acquired former clearance sites in the nearby area from the local authority.
"It is understood that the long term objectives of the applicant is to develop these sites to expand their Ivy House Road business further.
"However in the short term, the applicant has advised that it is necessary to secure the land they have purchased as they are experiencing both anti-social behaviour and fly tipping."
Historically the area to be fenced was used for residential and commercial use, with Terraced houses lining Botteslow Street and Melville Street.
The area behind was mainly used for commercial use, such as a garage and Eagle pottery works.
