Photography to go on display at Westport Lake as part of competition

Photographers will have their work displayed at a Stoke-on-Trent park as part of a new competition.
The Westport Lake photography group launched the competition earlier this year and the entries will go on display in September inside the park's visitor centre building, where the cafe is based.
The public will then be able to decide the winner from the collection of images.
The organisers say anyone can get involved, even with a smartphone camera, and entries are open until 27 August.
Lesley Cooper, who runs the photography group, said: "We thought it would be nice to have a competition to showcase some of the work of the photographers as lots of people are coming here with their phones or professional equipment.
"A lot of people come down to photograph just for the exercise and to meet friends for that community spirit.
"At Westport Lake for beginner photographers or anyone wanting to learn photography, there's an abundance of robins and squirrels, which are very obliging - so brilliant for those starting out.
"And those who are more experienced photographers, there are a lot of smaller birds, herons and we have the reed warblers at the moment but they have been a bit scarce at the moment."
Between 1- 7 September every picture entered will go on display and from public votes, first, second and third prizes will be awarded before they are put on canvas and displayed at the park's cafe permanently.
The Westport Lake photography group, now in its tenth year, has a growing community of photographers who frequently visit to capture the wildlife and surroundings of the park.
Lesley added: "I would recommend people walk around the lake and they will see our fantastic photographers who are so helpful, so don't be afraid to ask
"It's lovely to see your work displayed in this way and I don't think people realise what a bounty of wildlife there is down here but you can see that through our work."
Entries to the Westport Lake photography competition are open until 2pm on 27 August 2025. Entrants are told to bring two 7x5 prints in a sealed envelope to the Westport Lake Cafe. There is also a £5 entry fee.
