Crowds queue outside ‘UK's best mobile theme park’ Funderworld as it opens for first time in Stoke-on-Trent
People queued in Hanley for the opening of the mobile theme park Funderworld which will be open throughout the half term break.
The city centre attraction takes over the location usually used for Winter Wonderland and promises thrilling rides, plenty of fairground games and a massive selection of food and beverages.
The venue will be open daily 12 noon to 9pm until Sunday February 23 with the ribbon cut at 4pm on Thursday by Deputy Lord Mayor, Cllr Steve Watkins.
The Matthews Family took ownership of the Funderworld brand in 2017, hosting events nationwide but this is the first time the theme park has come to Stoke-on-Trent.
Michelle Matthews said at the opening: "We're super excited and absolutely thrilled to be back and the warm welcome we have had has been amazing.
"We are pleased that we have the big roller coaster back and some of the thrill rides that haven't been seen for a very long time in this area and some haven't been seen at all - they're brand new.
"The reaction from people here has been amazing. There are no people like Stoke people.
"I was born in the city, I love the city and it is one of our favourite places to visit - you can't beat it.
"We've had great feedback from all our socials and we just decided to do something for Valentine's Day and half term thinking there was a gap in the market.
"Although it is cold, it is nice and dry. We've worked tremendously hard to pull this together in a short time.
"It's nice to see the crowds tonight on our opening night."
Entry to the site is free and the rides and attractions accessed through a 4-hour unlimited riding wristband or "Pay as you go" Ride Tokens which can be brought at the venue.
Thrill seekers can expect the Crazy Mouse, a full-size rollercoaster, several "extreme white-knuckle" rides including Airmaxx which is said to be the "fastest" ride travelling in the UK.
