A man from Newcastle-under-Lyme has been arrested on suspicion of a series of offences following a report of an assault in Leek.

Staffordshire Police were called at 8.10am yesterday (Thursday 9 July) to an address in Leek following a report that a woman had been assaulted by a man inside a property. Damage was also caused to the address.

A spokesperson for Staffordshire Police said: "Officers searched the area in Leek using a dog patrol and a drone, but the suspect had already left the scene.

"We then received a report that the same man was on top of a storage container next to Rugeley Trent Valley railway station."

A 27-year-old man, from Newcastle-under-Lyme, has been arrested on suspicion of rape of a woman, assaulting a person thereby occasioning them actual bodily harm, possession of a knife in a public place, possession of an offensive weapon in a public place, threats to kill, affray, causing obstruction of an engine / carriage using the railway and criminal damage.

Staffordshire Police said that while in custody, the man assaulted an officer, causing an injury to their hand.

He was further arrested on suspicion of assaulting a constable in execution of their duty.

He remains in custody today (Friday 10 July) while the investigation continues.
