A North Staffordshire GP surgery is set to close next year, it has been announced.

Concerns have been raised about future healthcare provision for residents who use Betley Surgery, as it is due to shut at the end of March.

Newcastle MP Adam Jogee said access to a local GP is "vital" and residents must be able to continue accessing primary care close to home.

He added he will be meeting NHS leaders as soon as possible to ensure there is a clear plan in place for continued GP provision in the area.

The surgery on Main Road, Wrinehill, is currently open Monday to Friday between 8.30am and 6pm.

As of Wednesday (November 12) it was still accepting new patients according to the NHS website, and the nearest other GP surgery is two miles away in Madeley.

Mr Jogee said on Tuesday (November 11): "I have today been informed by the NHS Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent Integrated Care Board (ICB) that Betley GP surgery will close at the end of March 2026.

"The current providers have taken the decision to hand back their contract for personal reasons, and the private premises currently used for the surgery will not be available after that point.

"While services will continue as normal until March 2026, this will understandably be worrying news for residents who rely on the surgery for essential healthcare.

"I will do everything I can to protect local healthcare services and to ensure residents' voices are heard throughout this process.

"The ICB has begun a patient engagement exercise, and I strongly encourage residents to take part so your views can help shape the options under consideration.

"I will continue to engage closely with the ICB and local residents to ensure Betley retains reliable and accessible GP services."

Sarah Jeffery, Director of Primary Care for NHS Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent Integrated Care Board (ICB), said: "The ICB is committed to ensuring patients receive the care they need, in the right place and at the right time.

"Betley Surgery's current contract holders have chosen to end their contract on 31 March 2026 for personal reasons, and the building will no longer be available after that date.

"We are working closely with partners to make sure patients have ongoing access to high-quality local healthcare and are asking patients to share their views through a short survey to help shape future arrangements. This feedback is important and will help us plan services that meet local needs."

The survey is available online here until 11pm on Sunday, November 30. Paper copies will also be available in the surgery reception for patients to complete.

For more information or support in completing the survey, email [email protected] or call 0330 236 9061.
