A new tanning salon has opened in Stoke-on-Trent, bringing 'top of the range' sunbeds to the town centre.

Sun-Berni Tanning officially opened its doors on The Strand at the Longton Exchange on Saturday 8 August.

Berni, the owner who will be running the salon with the support of colleague Nat, decided to open the new business as she felt that a sunbed shop was "needed" in the area.

She said: "We started using sunbeds ourselves and they were always really busy.

"We are always looking for new business opportunities, so I thought why not give it a go."

Berni added: "We have got a lot of comments from local businesses and passersby saying that a sunbed shop was needed in Longton."

The salon, which encourages walk-ins, currently has three lay down sunbeds available to use and is also expecting the delivery of a stand-up sunbed.

Each of the lay down sunbeds features air conditioning and cold aqua mist to keep visitors cool.

"Now it's sunny, you want a breeze and you want to keep cool. So we've got top of the range sunbeds that keep you cool whilst tanning," Berni explained.

Sun-Berni Tanning also hopes to expand the offering of the salon by inviting other small businesses – such as tattoo artists, aesthetics clinics, or sports massage therapists - to rent out of the three smaller rooms on the second floor of the shop.

The new business owner also celebrated Longton as a good town to start new businesses and described The Longton Exchange as a "community" that has been "really supportive".

"Longton is a nice town centre," Berni said.

"I think it was run down for quite a few years, and they've really tried to bring Longton back to life.

"I would advise anyone thinking of opening a new business to come to Longton."
