A brand-new supermarket could be built in Smallthorne if plans are approved by Stoke-on-Trent City Council.
Randhawa Property Group has applied for permission to replace a vacant building on Ford Green Road with a retail unit, to be occupied by Tesco.
The existing restaurant on the site would be demolished and replaced with a single storey store with an ATM machine and associated parking.
A total of 18 parking spaces are proposed for the site, including two EV charging points and two disabled spaces.
A Design and Access Statement, submitted as part of the application, states: "The existing building is currently vacant two storey building and the car park was previously used as car wash.
"The existing vacant unit is worn-out and in need of refurbishment and to be upgraded if it is to have a sustainable future.
"The proposal is for demolition of exiting vacant unit to enable it to trade as food store (Tesco), modification to the car parking layout and other associated site works.
"The proposal aims to demolish the vacant unit to create a well designed and modern food retail space."
A decision is expected regarding these plans in the coming months.
