An indoor cricket facility is opening in Stoke-on-Trent, offering local cricket enthusiasts of all ages and abilities a new space to train year round.

Founded by husband and wife Gareth and Gemma Holdcroft, Wicketworks Stoke will officially open the doors to the new facility on Newstead Industrial Estate on Saturday 31 October.

Wicketworks features a range of facilities including four retractable lanes, three bowling machines and training equipment which will be available for hire.

Founder Gareth said: "It's aimed at everybody; from somebody who is just starting out all the way up to professionals.

"So, you can come down with your mates or with your family, and hire a lane if you want a knock-about, or you could have a one-to-one coaching session or team coaching sessions.

"We have had a lot of local cricket teams book their winter training in there already for next year."

Ahead of opening to the public, Wicketworks hosted a soft opening on Friday (23 October) with local cricket players invited to be the first try out the brand-new facilities.

Alongside the cricket facilities, the unit also features a reception area with seating and a television for parents and spectators to wait, with drinks and snacks available to purchase.

Gareth explained that he had followed cricket from an early age but became more involved when his son took up the sport nine years ago.

The husband and wife team then had the idea to open their own facility around two-and-a-half years ago.

"We sort of toyed with the idea back then of looking for a unit, but it wasn't really viable then," Gareth said.

"But then this opportunity came around and it's something that we couldn't really pass up."

Gareth added that starting a new business and opening the facility has been "very exciting, but also very hard work".

Wicketworks Stoke will officially open at Newstead Industrial Estate, Stoke-on-Trent on Saturday 31 October.
