A cat cafe has recently become the latest addition to Stoke-on-Trent's city centre.

My Purrfect Catè, which opened on Market Lane, Hanley on Saturday 23 May, invites customers to enjoy drinks and baked goods alongside the cafe's 13 cats.

Owner, Hividar, who also works as a teacher in the city, explained that she has had pet cats throughout her life and has been interested in opening a cat cafe for the past seven years.

"I'm a huge cat lover. Since I was a child, I have had cats in my life," Hividar said.

"I've heard about cat cafes in different cities so I went there, I had a look, and I loved the idea.

"Then I said, 'why not' because Stoke-on-Trent deserves something similar to this."

The cafe aims to provide a relaxing and "unique" experience for cat lovers in Stoke-on-Trent and beyond.

Guests can pet and play with the cats - which include six kittens - or simply eat and drink the beverages and food on offer in their company.

Hividar also stressed that animal welfare is important to her and added: "I don't consider my cats as just animals, I consider them like my own children as well."

She explained that ahead of the opening, herself and the team went through several months of preparation including feline first aid training and securing a 'keeping or training animals for exhibition' licence.

There is also an additional rest room for the cats to go to if they want a break from the cafe guests.

The cafe has limited capacity and therefore recommends that individuals hoping to visit should book in advance.
