More than 70 suspects arrested in effort to tackle violence against women and girls in Staffordshire

Over 70 individuals have been arrested as part of an effort to tackle violence against women and girls by Staffordshire Police.
Those arrested were suspected of crimes against women and girls including assault, intentional strangulation, engaging in coercive and controlling behaviour, threats to kill, and harassment and sexual offences.
Following 79 arrests, 13 people have been charged and 53 suspects have been given strict bail conditions to protect victims from further harm.
Police have been on patrol in town centres during evenings and weekends resulting in a number of women being safeguarded.
The activity comes after violent offenders have been convicted and received lengthy prison sentences for domestic abuse and assault.
Jack Denny, 33, was jailed for more than 10 years after he assaulted his ex-partner in Stafford.
Denny pleaded guilty to false imprisonment, wounding / inflicting grievous bodily harm, threats to kill and intentional suffocation.
He was also given a 15-year restraining order.
Andre Hancox, 28, had his trial at Stafford Crown Court thrown out after he admitted assaulting his partner in Hednesford.
He pleaded guilty to assaulting a person thereby occasioning them actual bodily harm and assault by beating and has been remanded in custody ahead of sentencing on Wednesday 28 October.
Inspector Karen Cooke, who co-ordinates the weeks of action against VAWG, said: "This activity is in addition to work that is done on a daily basis to protect vulnerable people and tackle violence against women and girls across Staffordshire.
"Violence and abuse of any kind can have a lasting impact on victims and we are committed to taking robust action against those responsible.
