Highways crews repaired more than 4,000 potholes across Staffordshire in August, says Staffordshire County Council.

Crews made the most of the summer conditions, repairing a total of 4,022 potholes throughout August, compared with 3,183 in the same month last year.

This brings the total number of potholes fixed since April 1 to 22,375.

Peter Mason, Staffordshire County Council Cabinet Member for Strategic Highways said: "We know how strongly people feel about potholes, which is why we are working hard to repair more defects, more quickly, and make journeys smoother and safer across Staffordshire.

"The fact that more than 22,000 potholes have already been repaired since April shows the scale and pace of work taking place."

The county council says "innovation is playing a key role in keeping up this momentum" with velocity patching and the JCB Pothole Pro being used alongside traditional cut and break crews "in the right locations".

Velocity patching allows crews to repair suitable defects quickly by cleaning the area, sealing it and applying stone and bitumen in one operation.

The JCB Pothole Pro helps prepare larger defects more efficiently before permanent repairs are made.

Peter Mason added: "By combining innovation such as velocity patching and the JCB Pothole Pro with the skills of our cut and break crews, we can target the right repair in the right place and keep making real improvements for residents, businesses and visitors."

Staffordshire County Council is working towards a target of filling 40,000 potholes by the end of March 2027.
