A man has been arrested following a police chase on the streets of Stoke-on-Trent on Wednesday (12 March).

Staffordshire Police say the Audi driver failed to stop for officers twice in February and when the road crime team spotted the vehicle this week on Lichfield Street, Hanley, the driver failed to stop again, resulting in the pursuit.

The driver rammed the Audi S3 into two police cars on Nile Street, Burslem, and collided with three other vehicles before he was removed from the car and tasered by police 'to safeguard members of the public and officers'.

A 21-year-old man from Newcastle-under-Lyme was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving, criminal damage and driving a vehicle on a road/public place without third party insurance.

A spokesperson for Staffordshire Police said: "At around 2pm on Wednesday (12 March) members of our road crime team spotted an Audi S3 on Lichfield Street, Hanley, which had twice failed to stop for officers in February.

"The car failed to stop again, resulting in a pursuit through Hanley.

"During the pursuit the driver of the Audi rammed two police vehicles on Nile Street. The car also collided with three other vehicles.

"To safeguard members of the pubic and officers, the driver was removed from the vehicle and tasered."

The man has been released on conditional police bail while Staffordshire Police conduct enquiries.

Staffordshire Police is appealing for relevant CCTV or dashcam footage. Call Staffordshire Police on 101, quoting incident 321 of 12 March, or use LiveChat on the website.
