Man jailed following assault on man in his 50s on a Newscastle-under-Lyme street

A man has been jailed for three years following a "brutal assault" on a man in his 50s in Newcastle-under-Lyme.
Kyle Stonier, 28, of Newcastle-under-Lyme, appeared at Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court on Wednesday 20 May after pleading guilty to assault occasioning actual bodily harm in February 2023.
Speaking following sentencing, Detective Sergeant Shannan Seddon, said: "This was a brutal assault on a man who was simply making his way home after a night out.
"Thanks to those who came forward to report what they saw, we were able to apprehend Stonier and bring him before the courts.
"I am pleased he has been handed a custodial sentence for his offending and hope this demonstrates how we will take robust action against anyone found to be committing violence in our communities."
Staffordshire Police explained that the victim had been leaving a nightclub on Hassell Street to get a taxi when he was assaulted in a doorway of a nearby estate agents.
The victim, a man in his 50s, suffered "serious head injuries" in the assault.
A spokesperson for Staffordshire Police said: "Thanks to witness accounts, officers were able to identify Stonier as the suspect and arrest him a short time later.
"Though he initially denied the offence, Stonier later went on to admit the charge in court."
